The layer rebuilt out of hard-edged tiles, each one a single flat colour from a cut-back palette, so it looks assembled from a limited set rather than merely coarse. Roundness turns the tiles into dots that grow with brightness, the way a printed screen does.

Rendering cost: light. A few samples per pixel: fine fullscreen at full pixel ratio, including on integrated graphics. How to tune it
