Spectra
Colour-split bands over a rippling field, swept by a slow pulse
A stack of bands bent by a field of crossed sines, with a pulse travelling down them that lights the ones it passes. Each colour channel reads the bands a little offset from the others, so every edge fringes into spectra the way a cheap prism does. Scanlines sit over the top, and the pulse tightens and brightens under the pointer.
Rendering cost: medium. A few dozen samples per pixel: comfortable fullscreen on a discrete GPU, but cap the pixel ratio for a retina hero. How to tune it
